MissionThe founders of the Sweet Mother Tour (SMT) recognize that no society can develop without an understanding of its own worth. We believe that cultural empowerment is a crucial ingredient to the successful political and economic development of any society - for too long the media has portrayed Africa and African people in a light that belies the true beauty and power of our cultures, and has propagated self-destructive and disempowering ideas to Africa's future leaders.The mission of the SMT is simple: to use the power of popular culture, leveraged through parallel networks of youth activists and media outlets throughout Africa & the Diaspora, to present an empowering image of our "Sweet Mother" Africa, to challenge the pop-cultural status quo regarding African youth, and to connect young people to ongoing projects in the struggle to improve upon the lives of African peoples on the continent and in the Diaspora. To date, SMT products have been aired in 45+ countries in Africa, the Caribbean, and North America. Major outlets that have aired SMT works include Channel O, Africa's first continent-wide 24hr music television station, and BBC Worldservice Radio, reaching 146 million listeners worldwide.
